Michael Heck received his Ph.D. and M.S. from Kansas State University in the area of Personality, with an emphasis in Applied Experimental Psychology. His primary area of research focused on the use of graphic symbols as an effective conveyor of intended meaning. Dr. Heck has been a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and the American Psychology Society. He has written and published more than 20 research papers and/or technical papers and his work has been presented at various professional conferences such as the American Psychological Association. He has also authored over 25 invention disclosures bulletins and has two patents.
Serving as the Managing Partner and Research Scientist of Stockdale and Associates, Dr. Heck specializes in User Research and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) engineering as well as User Interface Design. He has over 35 years of experience related to the design, development, and deployment of advanced user interfaces for a variety of industry sectors including military, finance, insurance, automotive, retail, and government. Prior to joining Stockdale & Associates, Dr. Heck was a Partner at IBM for 30 years and was a Lead Research Scientist and User-Interface Architect managing IBM’s Interactive Experience Practice as well as its Usability Engineering National Practice.
